I started as a volunteer with the animal protection organisation APADAC in Callosa de Segura after I found a dog and asked for help. At that time, the conditions at the shelter were unfortunately very poor. Fortunately, we managed to find a wonderful home for that little dog.
However, I stayed on as a volunteer in the dog section and continued helping there. After about three years, there was a change in the organisation’s management. At that time, I was working at a veterinary clinic, which meant I was able to help even more.
Later, I also started helping in the cat section and gradually discovered the world of cats. I realised that cats are even more neglected and abandoned.
After four years working with the organisation, I decided to step away and continue helping the animals independently. At that time, I was living in an apartment, so I decided to rent a small rural property where I could provide the cats with a safe and suitable temporary home.
When I left the organisation, I received financial support and help with adoptions from the German organisation Hundeblicke. They provided dry food, wet food and cat litter every month. Due to some differences, they eventually stopped arranging adoptions for the cats, but they continued supporting us with food and litter for another four years.
Unfortunately, that support has now also ended, as they only provide donations to organisations that have cats available for adoption.
Fortunately, Enid came along and offered to help me with the adoptions. Little by little, she also began helping to organise support for the cats. When we have sick animals, we publish their cases and provide photos and veterinary invoices to show exactly what the donations are being used for. This allows us to cover the veterinary expenses.
After living for almost eight years in a large house with plenty of land, we were asked to leave because the property was rented. We therefore decided to take out a bank loan and purchase our own piece of land so that I could move there with all the cats, my goat and my dogs.
However, there was no house on the new property for us to live in. So we had to take out another loan and eventually managed to purchase a mobile home with solar panels. There is no electricity connection on the property, but we do have water.
I have only been living here for three months, and I am now trying to gradually improve and prepare the gardens for the cats. This is currently my biggest concern. At the moment, they are still living in larger enclosures, but this is not the ideal situation. They need more space to run, jump, play and explore.
Fortunately, I have enough land available. My goal is to gradually create safe and spacious outdoor areas, similar to what I had at our previous home, where the cats can move around freely and feel comfortable.
That is my biggest wish at the moment: to once again provide these cats with a safe, suitable and loving home where they have the space and freedom they deserve. ❤️🐱
