Every day, we receive dogs, cats, and other pets that, for various reasons, cannot yet stay at the shelter or move into a permanent home. As a foster home, you play a crucial role in their lives: you provide them with a safe place, love, and the time they need to recover or grow.
🤔 What does a foster home do?
By temporarily opening your home, you break down the walls of the shelter and open the doors to a real home. Your main responsibilities will be:
- Provide love and structure: Give the animal a safe and secure environment where they can become accustomed to everyday life in a home.
- Socialization: Help puppies or kittens discover the world, or help frightened animals regain their trust in people.
- Medical care and observation: Sometimes you may need to administer medication (such as eye drops or treatments) and closely monitor the animal’s health and behavior.
- Preparation for adoption: Together with our team, you will help determine what type of permanent home is best suited to the animal’s personality.
🐾 Which animals need a temporary foster home?
The animals in need of foster care are very diverse. They include:
- Orphaned kittens or puppies: Who require intensive care, bottle-feeding, and socialization.
- Pregnant or nursing mothers: Who need to raise their litter in a calm, stress-free environment.
- Animals recovering from illness or surgery: For example, after an operation, an illness, or a difficult period living on the streets.
- Animals with trauma or fears: Those who experience too much stress in the shelter and benefit enormously from a calm and stable environment.
💼 What can you expect from us?
Of course, you won’t be alone in this process. We make sure that neither you nor your foster animal goes without the support you need:
- Medical expenses: All necessary veterinary visits, medications, and vaccinations are fully covered by our organization.
- Supplies: We provide essential items such as food, scratching posts, beds, carriers, toys, and, if necessary, medication or special dietary food.
- Guidance and support: You will be assigned a foster coordinator or mentor whom you can contact at any time with questions or in case of an emergency.
🙋♀️ Who are we looking for?
You don’t need to be a certified expert, but we are looking for people with the right kind of heart:
- You have enough time and patience to give the animal the care and attention they deserve.
- You live in the region/city of [Name of Region/City] (due to the necessary trips to our regular veterinarian).
- You are flexible: the foster period can range from a few weeks to several months.
- You are able, however difficult it may sometimes be, to let the animal go once we find them their perfect adoptive family.
